KAREN ROBINSON GALLERY Proudly Presents:
Cosy Tosies
an exhibition of paintings by MENDELSON JOE
Exhibition opens Saturday November 26, 2011 and runs to April 20, 2012.
As much as Canadians pine for warm weather, this Canadian embraces the drama of seasonal change, especially autumn; cool weather and cosy tosies. Jack Frost. First snow!
As a boy growing up in Maple, Ontario in the late 50's, I enjoyed kitchen socials with welcoming neighbours warmed by woodstove heat and talk of old cars. Back then it was common to walk miles in winter knowing Iíd eventually smell hot coffee (or hot chocolate) and get those cozy tosies.

Press Release Portrait Gallery of Canada Purchases Tomson Highway Portrait by Mendelson Joe
Karen Robinson Gallery is pleased to announce that The Portrait Gallery of Canada has acquired Mendelson Joe's painting of multi-media artist Tomson Highway. Mr. Highway, a celebrated playwright, musician and author of children's books is outspoken on matters pertaining to injustices done to and suffered by First Nations aboriginals. Mendelson Joe, himself a self-taught multi-media artist, rarely paints men except his heroes and/or those males he satirizes as in the case of many of Canada's politicians. The Highway portrait was exhibited exclusively at Karen Robinson Gallery and was recently published in Joe's Toronto, Joe's third book for Toronto publisher ECW Press. Mr. Joe states "I am privileged to be born in Canada, I exist therefore I art."
